How to Pick a Dive Watch

June 17th, 2009

A high-quality dive watch is an important piece of equipment to add to your diver’s chest. A good dive watch will withstand the depths, temperatures and locations you wish to dive in. Use these steps to learn how to pick the dive watch that will work for your diving excursions.

  1. Step 1

Know your dive plan. Before looking at dive watches, consider the dives you plan to do. You should know the temperature of the water you will be diving in, the depth you will dive, the gear you will be wearing and the features you are looking for in a dive watch.

  2. Step 2

Research what is available in dive watches. Many companies make dive watches, so take the time to look at some of the dive watches currently available on the market. Check out Luminox, which supplies dive watches to the Unites States Navy Seals.

  3. Step 3

See the dive watches you prefer in person. If you live in a larger city or a city located in a popular dive area, you may have a dive watch retailer. If not, ask your local high-end watch dealer or dive equipment shop for what they have in stock or are able to special order. They will likely have a couple of store models for you to see the look, feel, weight and features of some of the dive watches available.

  4. Step 4

Ask the opinion of other divers. If you are part of a dive community or know other divers, don’t hesitate to ask them what they prefer in a dive watch. Word of mouth is often the best source for any product. This is especially true for specialty items, such as dive watches.
